Stiffness and absorption are hot buzz words that is very abstract in training concept. Why? as the following video demonstrates while the knee is stiff the foot is traveling. So the absorption is in the negative heel travel or the downward movement. On other frames you will see the knee bend slightly.
What is being missed is the stiffness is in the foot and the absorption is the working of a class 2 lever.
Also noted is trying to be stiff kills the energy transfer which is the critical aspect of being fast, jumping high and throwing far.
